Journey Down The Rabbit Hole

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

Earlier this year, I had a thought to do “a rabbit-hole” concept. Little did I know I was going to live and act out this concept in real time as well.

The concept of the rabbit hole is used to refer “to a bizarre, confusing, or nonsensical situation or environment, typically one from which it is difficult to extricate from.”; Imagine everything that you were told and taught was a lie. Up is down. Down is up. Blue is red and so forth. But then not just that, imagine being told this and testing the theories and realizing that both are or could be correct. And then in the middle of COVID? No wonder some people are out there losing their minds. Like, Holy crap! So, do I drink the Lysol or not? Lol. Talk about mind-blowing. And this is with the psychedelics. Lol.

So, I chose to journey down this rabbit hole to see what else I would find. Now, let us use the storyline of Alice in Wonderland since this is where the concept originated. (I will only be using various parts of the movie). Alice, the little girl, bored with modern-day life chases a white rabbit that is obsessed with time down a rabbit hole. Going through this place, she encounters—. The 1st place: A long hallway with many doors. But there is only one key, and that key opens only one door. DID YOU CATCH IT? Once she was able to open the door, she is exposed to a garden but cannot get through because she is too big to fit through the door.

Next is My immediate favorite. The caterpillar. “Who R U? After asking so many times, she still does not answer. After having to convert my name multiple times, I forgot who I was. Am I, K. Mathis? Victoria? Keji? Morenikeji? Refer to the “Power in A Name” blog. But luckily, was able to find who I AM.

Then we have the Cheshire Cat. Weird crazy thing. But, in all, his weirdness suggests that no matter which direction you choose to go, you will still end up somewhere. So, now, I continue further down my rabbit whole, to where I once played a rabbit.

At the age of 6, I had my 1st lead role. Peter Rabbit. Granted, it was a school recital, but it was my 1st lead, and it was what started me down this life’s journey. It has been so long, but I believe I can remember exactly what led up to it and how I got that role. Peter Rabbit wasn’t my original role. I was to play the role of Parsley or one of the rabbits. Something simple originally, I think. We did rehearsals. Unfortunately, the person who originally designated to play Peter Rabbit just couldn’t get her lines right. Looking back, I remember thinking, even at 6 years old, for God sakes, this is your line! This is where you need to go. I knew all the lines, and, somewhere, that was when things changed. Everything changed. If you’re not going to do it right, then fine, I’ll do it, and just like that, in a blink of an eye, I manifested being Peter Rabbit. And that was the day everything took off and led me down the path of arts—acting and role-playing! As soon as I was chosen, I was able to recall my key and open the door to my garden. That was when nothing else seemed to matter. No more people pleasing. No more “I am a victim.” No more anything else. I am my key, and I only kept proving myself to me! Once you prove yourself to you, you don't have to prove yourself to anyone else!

I encourage EVERYONE who feels lost, who feel dead, who feels unsure—and any and every

other feeling that comes along—to take a moment and Journey Down That Rabbit Hole until you come out with your key to your garden.
